Provincial regulations may apply in some of the areas listed below. Sheep farmers are encouraged to check their provincial organization's website or contact the NSN for more information. 

Mandatory National Programs and Legislation

Legislation

  • Many of the requirements for livestock, including transportation, import/export, and disease management are mandated by the Health of Animals Act and detailed in the Health of Animals Regulations.

Importing/exporting sheep and lambs

Rules regarding the import and export of sheep into Canada are detailed on the Canadian Food Inspection Agency website:  'Importing or travelling with sheep and goats'; 'Caprine/Ovine - Animal Health Certificates and Sanitary Requirements (export); list of CFIA animal health office contacts
